10 Questions

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

My name is Amy, I’m 22, and I live in North Wales. I first discovered graphic design in college, having previously been unaware of it. After creating a (now terrible) logo for a classmate, I realised how much I enjoyed it. When I came to Wrexham University, I initially pursued photography and film, but after a year, I switched to graphics as I found it more enjoyable.

I’m a big music fan, with a range of interests from metal to UK house music. I also love relaxing in bed, watching something, and playing games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing.

If you could describe yourself in three emojis, which ones would you choose and why?

What motivated you to pursue an internship with Populi Media?

I wanted to enhance my skills before my third year at university and gain some practical experience in the field. I searched for local businesses in the Wrexham area and came across Populi Media. I emailed them to inquire about the possibility of an internship, and Beth responded positively, which was great.

If your internship had a theme song, what would it be and why?

I would choose “Dragula” by Rob Zombie since it has been playing every morning when I arrive, or perhaps an Olivia Rodrigo song because the radio seems to love her songs (and so do I).

What are some of the key skills or experiences you hope to gain during your internship?

Within my first three days, I’ve already learned how to schedule and manage social media content, create posters for events, and compose business emails, among other things.

Could you share an interesting project or task you’ve been involved in during your internship?

One of my favorite projects so far has been designing a poster for the Buzzcocks’ performance in Wrexham. I also had the opportunity to work on a rebranding task on my first day, which was fun and got my creative juices flowing.

Have you encountered any challenges during your internship, and if so, how have you overcome them?

One of the main challenges has been my laptop’s battery dying every 20 minutes, so I’ve become a floor goblin, constantly searching for available plugs. Additionally, coming up with three emojis that represent me has been a bit of a challenge.

If you were a meme that perfectly represents your internship experience, which one would it be?

What advice would you give to other students or individuals considering an internship in this field?

Definitely go for it and try to secure an internship. The more experience you gain and the more people you network with, the better you can advance your career.
